After his Tesla Cybertruck exploded in flames outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday, January 1, killing its driver, Elon Musk has commended the vehicle for limiting damage and wounding seven others, as the FBI looked into whether the explosion was a terrorist attack, officials said.

The driver of a Tesla Cybertruck was killed and seven others were injured when it exploded in flames outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday. According to officials, the FBI was looking into whether the explosion was a terrorist act.

The car exploded and flames poured out of it as it sat outside the hotel, according to footage captured by witnesses both inside and outside the establishment.

President-elect Donald Trump, who will return to the White House on January 20, owns the Trump Organisation, which includes the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. A new tab is opened by Tesla (TSLA.O).

Elon Musk, who is the CEO, is an adviser to the incoming president and was a major supporter of Trump during his 2024 campaign.

“Obviously a Cybertruck, the Trump hotel – there’s lots of questions that we have to answer,” Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department commented during a press conference in the afternoon.

Later, FBI special agent in charge Jeremy Schwartz informed reporters that it was still unclear if the explosion was a terrorist attack.

“I know everybody’s interested in that word, and trying to see if we can say, ‘Hey, this is a terrorist attack.’ That is our goal, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Schwartz said.

He went on to say that although the FBI had identified the driver of the car, which had been hired in Colorado, they were not yet prepared to make the driver’s identity public.
