On Friday, the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) responded to the U.S. Navy’s decision to eliminate several costly IT agreements along with 45 different grants and funding awards.
The United States Navy Secretary, John C. Phelan, announced Thursday night that close to $300 million had been saved following the termination of inefficient and overpriced IT contracts, in addition to the withdrawal of numerous grants and awards.
Phelan explained that these IT agreements were no longer effective and had exceeded their budget limits.
Responding to this on Friday via a post on X, DOGE praised both Secretary Phelan and the Navy, calling their action a “great work.”
“Great work by @SecNav @USNavy canceling wasteful grants, such as the “population consequences of the disturbance of humpback whales in the context of climate change,” DOGE stated.
This follows an earlier show of support by DOGE for the Department of Justice’s recent efforts to eliminate excessive grant spending.
DOGE was created under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, with the mission of reducing waste across federal departments.
President Trump has expressed approval of DOGE’s performance and recently suggested that the agency could remain in operation in the U.S. for the foreseeable future.
