The Anti-Drug Abuse Group’s president, Ambassador Maryam Hassan, paid His Royal Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, a visit at his palace.
The Emir voiced his worries about the rising rate of drug abuse in society, particularly among young people and women.
“Some of the issues presented before us are related to drug abuse; there are actions that cannot be carried out without taking drugs, such as a person killing their sibling or their parents. All of this cannot happen unless one loses their sanity.” he added
Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II asked them to concentrate on educating the public, particularly about the serious repercussions of the pervasive drug misuse.
The Anti-Drug misuse Group’s president, Ambassador Maryam Hassan, said in her speech that they had come to update the Emir on the group’s operations, specifically the battle against drug misuse among the general population, particularly among women and young people.
She said, “We are organizing workshops for teachers and holders of traditional titles to raise awareness. We have also proposed a law on drug abuse to the National Assembly, but it has not been presented yet. We are seeking the support of the Kano emirate to ensure the passage of the bill in the National Assembly.”
Additionally, Muhammad Murtala Safiyanu was named the new District Head of Kutama in the Gwarzo Local Government Area by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II.
