Olukayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, has been urged to be fired immediately by President Bola Tinubu due to the tragic deaths of several hunger protestors nationwide.

Take It Back Movement, or TIB, is one of the main organisers of the End BadGovernance demonstrations. Its National Coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon, released a statement outlining the demand.

According to the organisation, at least forty demonstrators nationwide were slain by Nigeria Police Force officers.

According to the statement, over one thousand people who were demonstrating against the high cost of living in certain areas were placed under remand.

Part of the statement reads, “We demand the immediate sack of the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, over the death of close to 40 protesters who were served bullets because they demanded bread.

“So far, over 1000 people have been remanded over the protest against hunger. At least 632 protesters have been remanded in Kano, while over 109 were remanded in Sokoto prison.

“The police must cease the use of teargas and live ammunition against peaceful protesters.”

According to ZINGTIE, certain criminal elements are said to have taken control of the nationwide rally, which started on August 1 and is scheduled to conclude today, August 10.

Security personnel murdered some Nigerians while using force to scatter the protesters.
