EPL: Iwobi breaks John Mikel Obi’s record

The record for most minutes played by a Nigerian in the Premier League has been surpassed by Alex Iwobi, the midfielder for Fulham.

After playing 90 minutes in Fulham’s 1-0 home loss to Newcastle United on Saturday, Iwobi broke the previous record held by former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi.

Iwobi has now surpassed Mikel’s record of 16 218 minutes with 16 289 minutes in the English top flight.

The 27-year-old moved to Craven Cottage after previously playing for Arsenal and Everton.

In his 25 league games this season for Fulham, the adaptable midfielder has five goals to his name.

He came over from Everton to join Marco Silva’s team last August.
