After Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League, former France defender Frank Leboeuf criticized Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
He indicated that the Spaniard’s poor passing during the match created difficulties for his teammates on more than one occasion.
Leboeuf noted wjile speaking on ESPN FC that Sanchez and his Arsenal counterpart, David Raya, were very different from one another.
He wants the Chelsea goalkeeper to remain calm and make simple passes during the game to avoid putting his teammates in tough situations.
He said,, “We need to talk about Rob Sanchez. He is a really good goalkeeper and he made some good saves today, but we need to stop saying he is the first offensive player.
“He has trouble with his feet and he makes everyone nervous. I was jumping every time a Chelsea player passed him the ball because he’s a threat. Liam Rosenior should tell him to stop being too laid-back. He’s sort of like, I know what I’m doing.
“No, you don’t know what you’re doing. You are putting everybody in danger. It’s scary what you’re doing. I was very upset with that. You can see the difference between Raya and him. That’s maybe the difference between Arsenal and Chelsea.”
Sanchez concluded the match with a 65% success rate for his passes, having misfired five times on passes in his own half.
His success rate for long balls was only 33%, and he made three saves in the match.
