Liverpool have now extended their lead to a nine-point margin at the top of the Premier League standings, following a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth.

In the day’s opening match, Nottingham Forest demolished Brighton 7-0 at the Forest Ground, moving into a joint-second place with Arsenal.

With both teams just six points behind, the Reds understood they needed to overcome the in-form Cherries to widen their gap.

They took the lead in the first half after Cody Gakpo was fouled inside the penalty area.

Mohamed Salah stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick, securing his 20th league goal of the season.

The Egyptian then curled in a composed second goal in the second half.

Bournemouth fought valiantly, striking the woodwork twice, having a goal disallowed, and missing a clear chance through Justin Kluivert.

However, the defining theme of Liverpool’s season is their ability to always find a way to win.
