Former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye has officially brought his professional football career to an end.
The 36-year-old made the announcement in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing gratitude and reflection on his journey in the sport.
“After much thought and consideration with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football,” he wrote.
“I will first like to thank God for the talent and the long career I’ve enjoyed.
I thank my family and friends for their unwavering love, support and understanding till this day.”
Over the course of his career, Ideye played for clubs across several countries, including stints in the English Premier League, Chinese Super League, La Liga, the Ukrainian Premier League, and the Greek Super League.
On the international stage, Ideye earned 28 caps for Nigeria and scored six goals. He was also a key member of the national team that lifted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa.
As he looks ahead, Ideye made it clear that his connection to the sport remains strong:
“Football will always be a part of my life as I enter my next chapter.”
