In what seems to be the first major purge of Donald Trump’s second term as president, a number of senior White House National Security Council, or NSC, personnel were let go on Thursday morning.
The reason for the officials’ dismissal and if it was a permanent one are yet unknown.
Nonetheless, two of the sources, who wished to remain anonymous, told reporters that a number of them were informed that there were problems with their background checks.
David Feith, a senior director in charge of technology and national security, and Brian Walsh, a senior director in charge of intelligence matters, are two of the senior NSC personnel that were dismissed, according to ZINGTIE.
The National Security Council has not responded to the development as of the time this article was filed.
The firings followed a meeting between Trump and right-wing conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer in the Oval Office, when Loomer secretly urged the president to fire some NSC employees.
Since March, when National Security Advisor Mike Waltz unintentionally invited a journalist to a Signal discussion where senior Trump officials discussed an impending military operation in Yemen, the National Security Council has been plagued by bad press.
