Nafiu Bala Gombe’s faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has attributed the party’s lackluster performance in the recently held 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections to an alleged breach of due process by individuals he refers to as coalition partners.
While addressing the media in Abuja, Gombe voiced his discontent that some individuals within the coalition acted beyond the party’s constitutional guidelines, which he claimed played a role in its electoral loss.
Gombe took the opportunity to officially distance his camp within the ADC from an international press conference recently held by “so-called opposition elements” masquerading as party stakeholders.
Gombe said, “The Authentic National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress distances itself entirely from the international press conference held by these factions. They do not speak for our party.”
He condemned the group led by David Mark for its accusation that the National Assembly has exceeded its authority in relation to the constitutional framework of the 2027 electoral act, asserting that the legislature is simply carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
“The National Assembly is empowered by the constitution to establish the Electoral Act. Accusing them of performing their duty is misguided. Rather than attacking the legislature, our coalition partners should focus on normalizing and formalizing their relationship with our great party,” Gombe added.
He maintained that the international community has overlooked the pleas of these dissenting voices because of their undemocratic actions and internal power conflicts.
Gombe urged genuine members and coalition partners who prioritize the collective good to return to ADC ward offices nationwide for registration and party membership, aiming to bolster the party structure.
He added, “Your power mongering and refusal to reconcile aspirations for the betterment of the country are the main reasons the international community ignores your appeals. Politics should be about service, not self-aggrandizement.
“We urge you to come back home. Help us rebuild and salvage this nation from the grassroots. The Authentic ADC remains the vehicle for true change in Nigeria.”
