The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed to remove all unauthorized occupants from the capital.
Speaking during his monthly ministerial press briefing on Monday, Wike made it clear that he will not tolerate any form of criminal activity within the FCT.
He stressed that economic hardship should not be used as an excuse to engage in crimes such as kidnapping or other illegal acts within the territory.
The minister reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents. He also pointed out that poverty remains a global challenge, and no government has been able to eliminate it entirely.
Wike said: “Those claiming to be the owners of this land, why are you not developing the land? We are going to make sure that all illegal occupants are thrown out. It’s unfortunate because security is key and paramount.
“Any government that can’t provide security for its citizens shouldn’t be in government.
“We have to be careful about this poverty thing. All over the world, China, there are areas where you can see poverty, but that does not give you room to make people uncomfortable, kidnap them. No, we will not allow that, so let nobody use this poverty thing as an excuse.
“We have this attitude that everything must be done by the government. I will not allow criminality under any guise.”
