A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested after he was allegedly caught taking a promotion examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.
Monsuru was apprehended on Wednesday during the third day of the promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission.
The examination was taking place at the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, premises when security personnel deployed to monitor the exercise arrested him.
During interrogation, Monsuru reportedly explained that his father was ill and unable to appear for the examination himself.
He reportedly told officials that his father had directed him to sit for the examination in his place.
The 33-year-old allegedly gave inconsistent details about his father’s age, claiming that he was between 67 and 68 years old.
However, his father reportedly informed security officials that he would clock 60 years in February 2027.
Musa Mohammed also disclosed that he completed his primary education in 1977 and secondary education in 1982.
Following the incident, the father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation after they had made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS.
