The government of Nigeria has declared that it will launch its first person into space.
This was announced on Wednesday at a news conference in Abuja by Mathew Adepoju, the director general of the National Space Research and Development Agency, or NASRDA.
He said that in order to support the bold endeavour, the government and the Space Exploration and Research Agency, or SERA, had inked a Memorandum of Understanding, or MoU.
According to him, “This collaboration, which is coming to the country, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s 25th anniversary of Space Exploration journey and opens new opportunities for scientific research and technological advancement.”
Meanwhile, NASRDA has criticised the absence of support for domestic technologies to combat maritime insecurity, according to a recent ZINGTIE report.
The organisation claimed that geostationary satellite technology could address 90% of the security issues that the nation’s maritime industry faces.
