Over 1,000 female students of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo, Lagos, have benefited from a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by Cerba Lancet Nigeria, a diagnostic firm. The program aimed to promote gender equality, reduce reproductive health complications, and empower girls with confidence and knowledge about menstrual health and hygiene.

The Cerba Lancet Nigeria Medical Director, Dr. Fred Obiajulu, emphasized the importance of educating girls about their bodies, particularly menstrual health. “When a girl is healthy, society is healthy. Suppressing the girl child leads to the regression of any society. That’s why we are anchoring this project, so we can train them on how to manage their reproductive health from the onset,” Obiajulu said. He highlighted that the initiative is part of the organization’s commitment to promoting girls’ health under SDG 3

Obiajulu explained complex reproductive health issues, such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), and noted that creating awareness is key to empowering girls. “This is an avenue to help them understand how to care for their reproductive health. Creating this awareness is key to empowering them,” he added. The Head Business Development and Marketing at Cerba Lancet Nigeria, Temitope Ambrose, said the initiative, known as Pad-Up, has been running for eight years, reaching both rural and urban communities.

The Commandant of the school, Captain Yakubu Haruna, described the session as “educative and timely,” while the School Matron, Mrs. Musa Janet, noted that the training would have long-lasting impacts on the students. “The impact cannot be overemphasized. It is what is needed, especially at this age,” Janet said. The students received free sanitary pads and gained valuable knowledge about menstrual health and hygiene, empowering them to make informed decisions about their bodies
