The Cyber Squad Initiative will provide 12 weeks of intense training for young people to acquire skills in supporting, managing, and repairing ICT gadgets like mobile phones and laptops. “The idea is to train and upscale the skills of young people to be able to provide support services for mobile phones, laptops and other ICT gadgets,” Adirika explained. The training will also include business incubation to equip participants with the knowledge to set up their technology businesses
For the pilot scheme starting in Ogun State, 50 participants have been selected, with plans to increase it to 500 after the success of the pilot phase. Adirika said, “Our target in the next two years is to have been able to train and empower 10,000 young ones with technology skills and depending on the support that we get this could even be scaled up to 100,000.” He encouraged Nigerian youths to embrace technology, saying, “Anyone who wants to do something solid with their career must embrace this kind of opportunity to upscale their skills and be out there doing wonders and adding value to the world.”
Adirika lauded the Ogun State Government for its foresight in partnering with the private sector to harness the economic potential in the digital space and build a better tomorrow for its teeming youths. Governor Dapo Abiodun stated that the tech training is another success story in his administration’s emphasis on partnership with the private sector to further develop the state.
