Beta Glass, a prominent glassmaking company in Nigeria, has announced its intention to expand its reach across Africa in 2025 as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Alexander Gendis, made this known during a media tour of the facility.
Gendis noted that the company’s vision is to expand to other African countries, especially the Francophone sides of the continent, after establishing its presence in several West African and Central African countries. “The commercial team has been very active in looking at developing our growth strategy and expanding ourselves within Francophone and West Africa. That’s critical and important to our strategy for growth,” he said.
“Our exports went from six percent to eight percent of our turnover, year on year, which was a huge improvement,” Gendis added. “We are looking first to our closest neighbours, then we’ll move a bit further away to cover the whole continent, and beyond to other parts of the world.”
Gendis also emphasised the importance of innovation and sustainability in Beta Glass’ operations. “This media tour provides a unique opportunity to showcase how innovation, efficiency, and sustainability intersect in our operations, enabling us to deliver exceptional packaging solutions while prioritising environmental stewardship,” he said.
“We believe that transparency and collaboration with the media are key to raising awareness about the role of glass packaging in building a greener and more sustainable environment for future generations,” Gendis added.
The Chief Operating Officer of Beta Glass, Jagdish Agarwal, stressed that the company has leveraged technology for its growth over the years. “Beta Glass’ commitment to operational excellence is evident in the advanced technologies and sustainable practices we employ at our manufacturing plants strategically located in Agbara, Ogun State, and Ughelli, Delta State,” he said.
“With these innovative technologies, we are shaping the future of glass container manufacturing while ensuring minimal environmental impact,” Agarwal added. “We are pleased for the media to experience this firsthand while amplifying our strides with key stakeholders.”
Sharin Sweet, the company’s head of sales, noted that the focus on sustainability has been a key differentiator and an edge for Beta Glass. “More of our customers seek partners committed to reducing environmental impact, and our focus on sustainability has been a key differentiator and an edge for us,” she said.
During the tour, media representatives were guided through the glass container manufacturing process, from raw material sourcing to the meticulous steps involved in producing glass containers for leading global brands. The tour included the recently upgraded and cold-repaired GF1 furnace, completed within a record 32 days.
The upgrade has enabled Beta Glass to increase production by 30 tons per day and extend the life cycle of the furnace by eight to 10 years, thus strengthening its competitive edge. Some of the company’s customers include Nigerian Breweries (Heineken), AB InBev, Guinness Nigeria Plc (Diageo), Nigerian Bottling Company, Nigerian Distilleries Limited, Intercontinental Distillers Limited, among others.
