The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC) will be the first facility to be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu.

Wike made this known during a visit to the site in Abuja on Friday, stating that the commissioning will mark the celebration of Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.

He praised Julius Berger, the construction firm responsible for the complete overhaul of the building, for delivering quality work.

Wike also appreciated the company’s adherence to the timeline agreed upon for the project’s completion.

The minister noted that the conference centre was in a severely deteriorated condition before President Tinubu ordered its restoration and upgrade to meet global standards.

He said that the centre was built in 1991 saying “it is surprising that no one had attempted to give it a facelift until now.

He described the feat as a prime example of “effective leadership”.

“No responsible leader would allow such a facility to be called an international conference centre considering the rot.

“Today, the centre has been transformed into a world-class facility, thanks to Mr President’s leadership and support.

“That’s what leadership is all about,” Wike said.

The minister also toured the ongoing expansion of Obafemi Awolowo Way (N5), stretching from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III, which is being handled by Julius Berger.

He shared his confidence that the initial stage of the project would be among those set for commissioning by President Tinubu in celebration of his second year in office.

“This project is a testament to the renewed hope agenda, and we’re thrilled to see it come to fruition,” Wike said. (NAN)
