The Yobe State Government has launched emergency relief efforts through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) after heavy rainfall hit parts of Potiskum, affecting 21 locations across five political wards. SEMA’s field response team is working closely with partners to assess the situation and provide immediate relief to affected households.

The affected communities include Old Prison, Filin Mashe, Unguwar Makafi, and several others. The majority of affected individuals are women and young children, with many homes either damaged or completely destroyed. While the total number of affected households and individuals is still being verified, 102 households (612 people) are currently camped at Sabon Gari Primary School in Potiskum.
The immediate needs being addressed by SEMA’s rescue team include shelter/hygiene and non-food items, food, and medical care. The team has provided assistance to reintegrate 102 households into host communities.

SEMA’s response team is committed to ensuring the affected individuals receive the necessary support to recover from the devastating effects of the flood.
