Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been urged by the residents of Jakande Housing Estate in Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos State, to rescue them from impending death as a result of the area’s frequent floods.
According to information obtained by ZINGTIE, a man living on the estate who went by Mr. Shakiru passed quite unexpectedly while unclogging gutters after some recent flooding.
As the rainy season draws to a close, the locals expressed concern about the effects of flooding in the area. They claim that during the rainy season, flooding occurs in the region annually.
However, they claimed that because the rainy season had just begun, the flooding this year had already exceeded their expectations.
Alhaja Fausat Olawale, a citizen, pleaded with the governor to protect people from untimely death.
“We cannot sleep with our two eyes closed whenever there is rain at night. We call on our amiable governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to come to our aid and save us from imminent death.”
Taofeek Ibrahim, a different resident, lamented the occurrence that took one of their members’ lives.
Ibrahim pleaded with Sanwo-Olu and the local government chairman of Eti-Osa to find a long-term solution to the recurring flooding.
“This is what we experience on a yearly basis, but this year’s own is beyond our control; this is June, and we have lost one of our own in his bid to clear the drain; what will happen to us in July, during rainy season proper?
“We are appealing to the state Governor and the Chairman, Eti-Osa local government to save us from untimely death and destruction of our properties,” he said.
