The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation (AA&F) has announced a significant $15 million commitment from Michael Wilson Taylor, a distinguished alumnus from the class of 1986.
This generous gift, one of the largest in the academy’s history, will establish an endowment in support of academic excellence at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Maryland, ensuring a long-term investment in educational programs that will benefit future generations of midshipmen.
In addition to supporting academic excellence, the funds will also bolster efforts to serve the 69,000 living USNA alumni and their families, as well as support AA&F operations at the Fluegel Alumni Center, which will be renamed the Taylor Alumni Center in recognition of Taylor’s remarkable generosity.
Taylor, a senior advisor at HarbourVest, a global investment company, and a former naval aviator who served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, expressed his enthusiasm for giving back to his alma mater. “There is nothing more impactful and more wholesome than giving back to the U.S. Naval Academy,” Taylor said.
“Philanthropy will always be critical for continuing the ‘margin of excellence,’ which funds important programs that allow our midshipmen the opportunities they need to become leaders of character and consequence for our nation,” he added.
