Howley Foundation awards $5.2 million to Waldron Mercy Academy for renovation and development.

Waldron Mercy Academy, a private Catholic K-8 school in Merion, Pennsylvania, has received a transformative $5.2 million gift from the Howley Foundation. 

The generous donation will support student scholarships and capital upgrades, enhancing the school’s ability to provide a nurturing and innovative learning environment.

The foundation’s commitment includes $2.4 million for the redevelopment of the school’s design and innovation lab, as well as early childhood education learning spaces. 

This investment will enable Waldron Mercy Academy to create state-of-the-art facilities that foster creativity, critical thinking, and academic excellence.

In addition, the Howley Foundation has pledged $1.8 million over the next 10 years to support scholarships for students with financial need. This funding will help make a Waldron Mercy Academy education more accessible to deserving students, regardless of their financial background.

A further $1 million has been committed as a challenge grant to support the completion of HVAC improvements at the school. This investment will ensure that Waldron Mercy Academy’s facilities are not only innovative but also comfortable and sustainable.

According to Joan Barone, Waldron Mercy Academy board chair, “This generous commitment will be instrumental in sustaining our Mercy mission and core values, which have united our community for 100 years.” 

Barone expressed her gratitude to the Howley Foundation, stating, “It will ensure that we continue to provide an environment that nurtures innovation and growth, and we are truly grateful to the Howley Foundation for their role in the bright future of Waldron Mercy Academy.
