American political commentator Candace Owens has issued a response to a defamation suit initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, following her repeated assertions that the French First Lady was originally male.

In a recent video shared on her YouTube channel, Owens reaffirmed her position and stated she is prepared to confront the Macrons in court even if the lawsuit advances to the discovery phase of legal proceedings.

“You were born a man and you will die a man. That’s the point I’m making,” Owens said. “So give us a sample. I’ll send my doctors to take your blood. We’ll get to the bottom of it.”

Filed on Wednesday in Delaware Superior Court, the legal complaint accuses Owens of engaging in a widespread campaign of public shaming and persistent harassment, all stemming from a baseless theory that Brigitte Macron, age 72, was originally named Jean-Michel Trogneux.

The Macrons described the allegations as “invasive, dehumanising, and deeply unjust,” and said they are frequently confronted with these rumors in everyday life.

The lawsuit includes 22 counts and is seeking both compensatory and punitive damages, though no specific monetary amount has been disclosed. The case stands out as an uncommon example of a current head of state and their partner pursuing a defamation case in an American court.

Under U.S. legal standards, public figures must demonstrate that defamatory statements were made with “actual malice”—meaning the person either knew the claims were false or acted with blatant disregard for the truth.

Owens, a prominent online figure with a reputation for far-right commentary and support of former U.S. President Donald Trump, dismissed the lawsuit as an effort to suppress her voice.

“I’d like to make it to discovery. I think we owe that to the world,” she said. “We’re revolting against the perverts that run the world… I think you’re sick. I think you’re disgusting.”

Speculation about Brigitte Macron’s gender has been present in far-right political circles in France for several years, but the complaint asserts that Owens played a key role in amplifying the narrative on a global scale, resulting in serious reputational harm for the couple.
