Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, working alongside Special Operations Forces, have rescued 360 civilians, mostly women and children, who were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The development was disclosed in a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
According to Makama, the rescue mission was conducted on June 6 across multiple locations around the Mandara Mountains following a coordinated military offensive.
Sources said Special Operations Forces first carried out preliminary operations that disrupted terrorist activities in the area, creating confusion within their camps.
This, they said, enabled ground troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade to advance and successfully rescue the abducted civilians.
“The victims were reportedly abducted during an attack on Ngoshe community on March 3, 2026,” Makama wrote.
However, the operation was marred by tragedy as two infants died during the evacuation due to the difficult terrain encountered while moving the victims.
The rescued civilians were immediately taken for medical evaluation, while those requiring urgent attention were treated by military medical personnel and later transferred to the General Hospital in Gwoza.
They were also provided with food and water before being kept in a secure facility pending arrangements for reunification with their families.
Security sources described the operation as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to weaken terrorist networks and free civilians held captive in the North-East.
