Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has declared that his administration will not engage in any form of peace agreement with terrorists, insisting that the government remains stronger than criminal elements.
The governor made this position known during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service.
According to him, entering into peace deals with bandits is an offence in Zamfara State, adding that his administration is firmly opposed to such arrangements.
Lawal maintained that the state government has consistently adopted a hard-line approach against negotiations with armed groups responsible for insecurity in various communities across the state.
His comments come amid reports that some individuals recently entered into a truce with bandits operating in parts of the state, stressing that those involved acted on their own and did not represent the position of the Zamfara State government.
The governor reiterated that his administration remains focused on a security strategy driven by military operations and law enforcement actions rather than dialogue with criminal groups.
Lawal further argued that past efforts to negotiate with bandits had failed to deliver lasting peace and, in some cases, emboldened criminal activities.
“Seeking a truce with bandits is not my opinion and never will be,” the governor said, reaffirming that his government will not compromise with individuals responsible for killings, kidnappings, and other violent crimes across Zamfara communities.
