The Kebbi State Government has refuted claims linking it to the ongoing legal battle involving two factional chairmen of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

The denial was conveyed in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, in Birnin Kebbi.

The government stated that it has no connection with the ADC and is not a party to the internal dispute affecting the opposition party.

“Our attention has been drawn to publications alleging that the Kebbi State Government is behind the court case between two factional ADC chairmen.

We categorically state that the government is neither a member of the ADC nor affiliated with the party,” the statement said.

It explained that the disagreement remains an internal issue within the ADC, which has been experiencing a prolonged leadership crisis that has resulted in legal actions by opposing factions.

The government also took issue with certain media reports on the matter, accusing them of lacking balance and professionalism.

According to the statement, some of the reports were one-sided and failed to meet standards of fairness and ethical journalism, adding that the writers were allegedly absent during the court proceedings.

It advised journalists to maintain strict adherence to professional ethics in their reporting and avoid publishing unverified information.

The government further rejected allegations by one of the factional chairmen accusing it of influencing judicial proceedings, describing the claim as unfounded.

“This is not an APC affair but an internal dispute within the ADC, which should be resolved through internal mechanisms rather than unfounded accusations,” the statement added.

The crisis within the ADC in Kebbi involves rival factional leaders, Abdulrasak Abubakar and Sufiyanu Bala, who are currently before the court over allegations of contempt.

The state government maintained that it has never discriminated against members of any political party and described the allegation against it as false.
