Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on his supporters, residents of Rivers State, and Nigerians at large to express gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his prompt action in preventing the state from descending into chaos amid a deepening political conflict.

In a statement released Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara confirmed that the ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts aimed at restoring himself, his deputy, and the elected members of the State House of Assembly are progressing as planned.

He expressed optimism that “democracy and good governance will soon return to the state, with both arms working together for the good of the people.”

The governor made these remarks on Thursday during a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the Simplified Movement, held as part of events to commemorate his two years in office.

Fubara said, “I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved, and you will return to your offices, not just in the Executive arm, but also the Legislative arm.

“And I also believe that the strong relationships we had before will return, and we will begin to work together again for the good and progress of the state. What is important is for us to have a forgiving spirit.”

He also appealed to the people of Rivers State to recognize the President’s role in stepping in to defuse the crisis, which he said could have escalated further.

Fubara urged everyone to maintain peace to support the reconciliation efforts and enable the state to move forward.

He said, “We are already in the peace process. I want you to thank Mr. President for his timely intervention in salvaging the situation and stabilising the polity and the state. If not for Mr. President, the story today would have been different.

“I don’t know how he gets his information, but the truth is that he acted with wisdom at the right time. He is the one you should thank.

“And let me also thank him personally for his intervention, and the personalities across the country who appealed to him to intervene.

“We have to come down from our high horses and commit ourselves to the peace process. And that is what we are doing.

“What is important is for the state to move forward. It is not about you; the interest of the state is paramount.”
