Mrs. Hilda Dokubo, the chairman of the Rivers State Labour Party, has called for peace and stability and urged lawmakers to put the interests of the state ahead of their own.

Dokubo made this plea on Thursday following a meeting of INEC stakeholders in Port Harcourt.

She called the current impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara a diversion from the state’s development and governance.

After six months of emergency rule marked by instability, misery, and limited development, she believes Rivers should concentrate on rebuilding.

“The only person who serves a governor an impeachment notice is someone who believes he is above the state.

“I am disturbed and disappointed because Rivers is being dragged back into turmoil just as it is emerging from months of instability,” she said.

Dokubo called on stakeholders and political leaders to put an end to diversions and concentrate on improving the lives of Rivers residents.

“This is our only home. If there is no peace here, we cannot sleep, work, or keep our children safe. Nobody wants that,” she said.

She urged others to emulate the four assembly members who changed their minds on the impeachment notice.

Dokubo urged a long-term solution while cautioning against “political solutions” that would simply make the state’s problems worse.

“Let us live in peace. Let Governor Fubara do his work and complete it, now that we are beginning to see governance,” she added.
