Fuel Scarcity Deepens as Major Filling Stations Remain Shut for Days

MRS filling stations, a major partner of Dangote Refinery, have remained closed for at least seven days amid the latest increase in petrol prices.

Checks by DAILY POST revealed that MRS outlets across Abuja and neighbouring areas have not received supplies of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) since July 17, 2026.

A manager at one of the MRS filling stations, who requested anonymity, confirmed the situation while speaking with DAILY POST on Friday.

“We have not had fuel supply since last Thursday. However, we hope to get supply today (Friday) following the resumption of Dangote Refinery’s gantry sales in naira,” he told DAILY POST.

Recall that Dangote Refinery suspended the sale of petrol in naira through its gantry on July 15, 2026. The refinery, however, resumed naira-denominated sales on Thursday, increasing its gantry price to N1,215 per litre from N1,175.

The refinery’s decision to restart the sale of refined petroleum products in naira has helped reduce uncertainty in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

Meanwhile, DAILY POST reports that depot owners and petroleum marketers have adjusted petrol prices upward at least twice within the past seven days.

At present, petrol is selling for between N1,300 and N1,340 per litre at retail outlets in parts of Abuja.
