Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Chef Smith, is a Ghanaian chef who has recently been arrested and detained for creating a fake Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Smith declared himself on social media to have set a new world record for the longest cook-a-thon, which is rumoured to have lasted 820 hours and 25 minutes, between February 1, 2024, and March 6, 2024.

In an interview with the BBC, Alina Polianskaya, the PR executive for Guinness World Records, disputed Smith’s claims, saying, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate.

“The current and true record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023,” he added.

ZINGTIE recalls that Irish chef Alan Fisher has surpassed Nigerian chef Hilda Baci to claim the record for the most cooking hours, clocking in at 119 hours and 57 minutes.
