On Sunday, angry teenagers drove Benue State Commissioner of Police Emenari Ifeanyi from the Wurukum Roundabout protest site in Makurdi.
According to the ZINGTI, a group of angry demonstrators had assembled in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, to express their disapproval of the ruthless murder of more than 200 locals.
Wearing black clothing and carrying signs, the demonstrators proceeded to the streets to call on the federal and state governments to act immediately and provide justice.
Their cries for an end to the relentless attacks by alleged armed herdsmen reverberated with sorrow and indignation.
The police commissioner encountered animosity when he showed up at the protest site with a group of cops who were highly armed to speak to the protesters.
When he tried to address the angry youngsters, they yelled at him and insisted that he “go to Yelewata,” the scene of the massacre, rather than speaking to them in the state capital.
Police officers started using tear gas on the demonstrators shortly after the commissioner departed the site, causing panic and multiple injuries.
