Brazilian football legend Zico has expressed his support for Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent claim of being the greatest footballer of all time.

Zico agreed with the Portuguese star’s assertion—not necessarily because of innate talent but because Ronaldo didn’t possess the natural ability that some other elite players were born with.

According to Zico, Ronaldo’s success has been the result of relentless hard work, which has solidified his position as one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Ronaldo recently declared that no footballer, past or present, is better than him, claiming to be the most complete player ever and the best player football has ever known.

Without a doubt, the 40-year-old Portugal international has cemented his legacy as one of football’s modern icons.

Even at his age, Ronaldo continues to excel at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

In a conversation with his friend Edu Aguirre, Ronaldo ranked himself above the likes of Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, and Pelé.

In an interview reported by The NassrZone via Sportskeeda, Zico was asked whether he thought Ronaldo’s statement showed a lack of humility.

“No, he absolutely should say that. People talk about him as if he’s just a goalscorer, but that’s not true, man. Cristiano is a great reference for any footballer because he wasn’t born with the talent of other players—he became the best through sheer dedication and effort.

“I hope he scores 2,000 goals or more. He rarely gets injured and never stops training. He has dedicated his life to football, and that deserves applause and respect,” he said.

Those close to the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus forward often highlight his remarkable work ethic and discipline.

Ronaldo has already scored 924 goals and provided 257 assists in 1,263 appearances across all competitions.
