Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, has donated $700 million worth of shares in Alphabet, Inc., Google’s parent company, to support various causes. According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Brin donated 4.1 million shares, with a significant portion going to Catalyst4, a nonprofit organisation he established in 2021.
Catalyst4 will receive $500 million to fund efforts to mitigate and reverse the effects of climate change and address neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson’s disease, which runs in Brin’s family. Additionally, $98.3 million worth of shares were directed to the Sergey Brin Family Foundation, and $47.8 million were awarded to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research
Brin’s donations are part of a larger pattern of philanthropy, following a $600 million donation in 2023 and gifts of $100 million in May and December of 2024. Brian’s net worth is estimated to be $143 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The donations reflect Brin’s commitment to addressing critical issues, including climate change and Parkinson’s disease research, and demonstrate his dedication to using his wealth to drive positive change
