The governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has issued a strong condemnation of the vicious assault perpetrated by suspected armed herdsmen against the peaceable residents of Mbalom in Gwer East Local Government Area.

The governor condemned the act as unacceptable and a direct challenge to the state’s collective peace and security.

He voiced heartfelt condolences to the families impacted by the assault and guaranteed them that the government is resolutely on their side during this challenging period.

Governor Alia expressed serious concern about the apparent pattern of calculated and selective attacks in certain areas of the state, emphasizing that such acts of terror, despite their increasingly hydra-headed nature, will not be permitted to flourish.

He restated his steadfast determination to tackle and overcome all manifestations of crime that jeopardize the safety of Benue communities.

The governor praised security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force, for their rapid response and continuous efforts, highlighting their commitment to pursuing the offenders and guaranteeing their capture and prosecution.

He called on them to step up efforts to prevent further incidents and provide enduring relief to communities impacted.

Governor Alia recognized the difficulties presented by these attacks but assured the people of Benue State that his administration would remain steadfast and diligent in its responsibility to protect lives and property.

He underscored that all required measures are being implemented to bolster the security architecture, improve intelligence collection, and work with pertinent stakeholders to achieve lasting peace.

He urged residents to stay calm, watchful, and respectful of the law, while also encouraging them to keep providing security agencies with reliable information that can assist with current operations.

Tersoo Kula, his spokesman, stated that Governor Alia affirmed the Benue State government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its citizens and pursuing peace, justice, and security for all without faltering.
