Prince Emeka Mamah, a prominent member of the Labour Party (LP) and a close ally of Mr. Peter Obi, the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, has switched to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State. He cites Governor Peter Mbah’s outstanding performance in the state and his dedication to leadership as the reasons for his decision.

Additionally, leaving the Labour Party for the PDP, the party’s most recent state press secretary, and the LP chairmanship candidate for Igboeze North LGA, Barr Titus Odo, described the PDP as a home.

During his reception of the two former party members at the State PDP headquarters in Enugu on Tuesday, Dr. Martin Chukwuweike, the chairman of the state PDP, stated that other political parties in the state were already in danger of disintegrating.

Mamah, who coordinated the Peter Obi presidential campaign in Enugu State for the general elections of 2023, claimed that Mbah had persuaded him and thousands of his supporters to rejoin the PDP in light of the administration’s impressive record, which marked a significant shift from the state’s dismal past.

“The present governor – Peter Mbah – has shown that governance is not supposed to be what it used to be in the past. He has endeared my heart so much and that is why somebody like me, the person I brought here today, and so many other people will have to join the party,” he stressed.

The former Environment and Rural Development Commissioner also revealed that additional political gladiators who had previously been upset but had been appeased by Mbah’s inclusive leadership and governance approach would soon rejoin the party.

“In the next couple of days, there is going to be a lot of movement of people that I worked with when we were with Barr Chijioke Edeoga and Peter Obi in the last elections. So many of our members are going to be part of this movement to PDP and in support of Peter Ndubuisi Mbah,” he added.

The “governor’s giant strides in the state” were a major factor in Barr Odo’s decision to join the PDP, he said, adding that he was happy to be home with his followers at last.

Odo went on to say that Barr Chijioke Edeoga also had an impact on his decision to join the PDP. He urged the state’s citizens to support the Mbah administration’s policies so that the government could finish the admirable projects that are now underway in all 260 wards.

Dr. Chukwuweike welcomed Mamah and Odo and their throngs of supporters to the party secretariat in Enugu on Tuesday. He claimed that the governor’s excellent leadership had put the party in a stronger position while the APC and the LP continued to fall due to a lack of public confidence.

More powerful opposition members have already queued up to declare their defection to the PDP in the state, he said, adding that the party will continue to attract quality defectors to its fold despite the opposition’s confusion and dissatisfaction.

He was happy with the way things were going, but he blamed the mass defections on Governor Mbah’s governance principles of accountability, transparency, economic reform, and optimal performance.

“I feel happy that it is working out the way our governor wanted it. He directed it and we are doing it and it is working fine. The secret to this is having a normal mind to talk to people. The governor is truthful about what he is saying and again, the job being done by the governor. They said that no one will see it and say he is still in the opposition.

“That is why they are all coming. We are expecting as many big wigs as still outside, but by next tomorrow, we are going to take in not less than four from the national assembly,” he concluded.
