Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has announced a N50 million donation to support the educational foundation of the Oron Union, a socio-political organisation of the Oron ethnic nationality in the state. The donation was made during the grand finale of the Union’s centenary celebration.

Governor Eno, represented by Senator Effiong Bob, highlighted the achievements of the union, saying, “For the past 100 years, Oron Union has defined and projected its unique social and cultural ethos, kindred spirits and unity of the Oron people.” He added that the union’s great work has made the Oron people more cohesive and industrious.
The governor promised to run an inclusive government where all ethnic nationalities in the state are accorded equal opportunities in governance. He also highlighted some of the projects executed in the area, including the Oron Maritime Shore Protection project
The Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, described the centenary celebration as a testament to the strides of identity and a promise of the future of the Oron people. She lauded the unity and spirit of togetherness that have defined the Oron Union.
The President General of the Oron Union, Sir Essang Bassey, said the union had established two secondary schools and awarded scholarships to students. He announced that the union would award 100 scholarships to mark its centenary celebration, saying, “Scholarships, which was the bedrock of the founding fathers, have continued to be a recurrent decimal in all Union activities.”
Governor Eno’s donation aims to support the education foundation of the Oron Union, which has been instrumental in promoting education among the Oron people. The governor said, “The government has decided to support the education foundation of the Oron Union… with the sum of N50m to help develop the youth for future education.”
