Eze Godwin Irononso Ezekwesiri, the Ochi 1 of Isuochi Ancient Kingdom in Umunneochi LGA of Abia State, has passed away.

The monarch, who was 88 years old, ascended the throne in 1974 as the first king of Isuochi Ancient Kingdom and reigned for 51 years, overseeing peace and unity across the various communities within Isuochi.

His death was confirmed by his son, Ikedi Ezekwesiri, a former state legislator.

In response to the king’s passing, Governor Alex Otti expressed his sorrow and lamented that the traditional ruler died at a time when the younger generation could have greatly benefited from his experience and wisdom.

Otti, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, described the late Ezekwesiri as an elder statesman who made a positive impact on his community and the state as a whole.

“The Abia Chief Executive recalls that Eze Ezekwesiri used his over five decades on the throne to touch lives positively while ensuring peace, unity and security in his kingdom in particular and Umunneochi as a whole, and prays God to grant his soul eternal repose.”
