The Katsina State Government has announced Monday, July 14, as a public holiday in honor of the late Muhammadu Buhari, a prominent figure from the state.
In a statement released Sunday night, the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, shared the decision with the public.
According to the government, the holiday is intended to give residents and civil servants the opportunity to mourn and offer prayers for the former leader.
Buhari passed away on Sunday in London following a short illness that had not been disclosed publicly.
Acting on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima has traveled from Abuja to London to oversee the return of the former president’s remains to Nigeria.
Buhari is expected to be buried today in his hometown, Daura, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
