The Sokoto State Government has placed six secondary school principals on suspension over accusations of misconduct, including the unauthorised collection of fees for Junior Secondary School exam results.
Those affected are principals from Nana Girls Secondary School, Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Gagi, GDSS Mana, Giginya Memorial College, Mana Basic Secondary School, and GDSS Silame.
In a statement released on Friday, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Ibrahim Iya, disclosed that while some were suspended for imposing illegal charges, others were penalised for alleged defiance of official directives.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, authorized the suspensions and constituted a five-member committee to investigate the claims.
The investigative team is headed by Professor Mustapha Namakka Tukur and includes members from the State Arabic and Islamic Education Board (AIEB), the Ministry’s Quality Assurance Department, the Teachers’ Service Board (TSB), and the Planning Department.
All suspended principals were instructed to hand over administrative responsibilities to their vice principals without delay.
Iya emphasized that this move reflects the Ministry’s dedication to enforcing discipline, ensuring transparency, and promoting accountability in the running of public schools.
