After discovering his future bride-to-be lying about her whereabouts, a Nigerian man reportedly called off his wedding three days before it was scheduled, sparking a contentious discussion on social media.
User @Choji_ES first shared the story on platform X (previously Twitter), where it immediately acquired popularity and sparked debate.
The widely shared article claims that the soon-to-be husband saw his fiancée in a nearby market, but when he contacted her to find out where she was, she said she was at home. The man reportedly called off the wedding, citing dishonesty as the cause, after becoming alarmed by what he saw as a warning sign.
“Three days to their wedding, this man saw his fiancée in the market, called her, and she lied that she was at home. He canceled the wedding, saying he couldn’t marry a liar. Is this enough reason?”
Since then, the disclosure has generated conflicting responses on the internet. While some people have defended the man’s choice as a sign of character, others have called it an exaggerated response to a small falsehood.
The incident has rekindled more general discussions about trust, openness, and dealbreakers in contemporary relationships as the debate continues.
