Dr. Reuben Abati, a well-known journalist and ex-presidential spokesperson, has offered a rare insight into his home life, showcasing the candid and lively character of his marriage.

Abati talked about the interplay between respect and traditional expectations in his home during a conversation with Morayo Afolabi-Brown on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

He remarked that, being the older partner, there are times he feels his wife is becoming overly familiar. However, when he tries to assert his seniority, she stands her ground regarding her independence.

As Abati notes, his wife signals unequivocally that she will not be silenced or coerced into conventional actions such as kneeling. She even proposes that if those are his main criteria, he should look for a spouse from his own village.

“As an older person, sometimes I think my wife gets too familiar and I said no, I am older than you and she said no I you don’t want me to talk. She said she cannot kneel down, if I am looking for a wife I should go back to my village,” he said.

This glimpse into his private life emphasizes his union with Kikelomo Abati, who is widely known as Kiki Atanda-Owo and serves as a prominent broadcaster and the CEO of Z-Edge Holdings.

The pair, who are said to have tied the knot in 2020, has frequently attracted public interest owing to their intellectual compatibility and mutual professional respect. Abati has characterized Kikelomo, who presents the talk show “Real Talk With Kike,” as a confidante and a woman of “remarkable, intellectual, and elegant” qualities who has had a major impact on his fashion choices and offered him emotional healing.

Even with the occasional humorous friction noted in the interview, Abati has consistently demonstrated profound devotion to Kikelomo.

In May 2024, on their fourth wedding anniversary, he made a public vow to pay a second bride price as a renewed demonstration of his commitment.

He has often praised her dedication and work ethic, stressing that their relationship is grounded in real love and a common purpose.
