According to our investigation, prominent Islamic cleric Dr. Ahmad Gumi has expressed concern over what he sees as a detrimental and utterly untrue assertion circulating on Facebook.

The tweet claimed that Gumi had threatened Nigeria’s Minister of Defence over current military operations against bandits.

On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Gumi responded on his official Facebook page, emphatically denying making such a statement and called it plain defamation. He asked the public to assist identify the Facebook user, Bello Isiaka, who shared the post as a breaking news alert.

Our findings demonstrate that the post included Gumi’s image, giving the impression that the threat was directly from him.

The cleric stated that the claim was made maliciously in order to destroy his reputation, and that legal action would be taken once the perpetrator was found.

The incident has provoked strong emotions online, raising new concerns about misinformation and impersonation on social media.
