Gunmen kill councillor, youth leader in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command has verified the reports of the purported shooting deaths of a youth leader, Arinze Ugochukwu, and a council member, Stanley Nwaeze, in Isu in the state’s Onicha Local Government Area by unidentified gunmen.

DSP Joshua Ukandu, a spokesman for the command, verified the occurrence in Abakaliki on Tuesday.

The command got the report of the occurrence at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the spokeswoman, who denounced the horrific murder.

“I received the report from a divisional police officer of Onicha LGA that the incident happened on June 2.

“The incident is confirmed, and the police are investigating the matter,” Ukandu said.

Nwaeze, a councillor, was said to represent the Enuagu ward. Ugochukwu, a resident of the Amagu Mgbom village in the Isu community, was the National Youth Council of Nigeria’s local government coordinator.
