Mike Ejeagha’s retirement from public life nearly reached its peak on Monday when Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, announced that his government would henceforth be in charge of his maintenance.

Ejeagha sprang to fame when well-known comedian Brain Jotter made his old song “Gwo gwo gwo” more widely known by creating a distinctive, dramatic dance that went viral.

The governor also formally renamed Obinagu Road as Mike Ejeagha Road in Abakpa Nike, Enugu, acknowledging the road’s close proximity to the artist’s home.

Mbah emphasised that Chief Pa Mike Ejeagha must be personally honoured at his residence in order for the road to be officially commissioned. The governor and his crew were greeted with warmth by the iconic musician’s home, as seen in an emotional video.

Sharing the footage, the governor remarked, “Today, we honoured a living legend, commissioning the Obinagu Road in Abakpa Nike Enugu, reconstructed by our administration earlier in the year, and renaming it as Mike Ejeagha Road, as it leads to his residence. As a government, we have also assumed sole responsibility for his upkeep.”
