Former Major League Baseball player David Justice has opened up about the reasons behind his divorce from actress Halle Berry, shedding light on their past relationship during a recent appearance on the All the Smoke podcast, hosted by Matt Barnes.
Justice revealed that his decision to end the marriage stemmed from what he perceived as Berry’s lack of domestic engagement and maternal qualities.
“I’m looking at my mom, I’m a Midwest guy. So in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean, and I’m thinking OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with? And at that time, as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly,” he stated.
Reflecting on the failed marriage, Justice admitted that the relationship might have been salvageable if he had been more aware of therapy and relationship counseling at the time. He explained that he entered the marriage with limited experience, having only been in one prior relationship.
While discussing public perception, Justice expressed frustration over being blamed for the breakup, insisting that Berry was wrong to portray him as the sole cause of their split.
The couple tied the knot on January 1, 1993, and finalized their divorce on June 20, 1997.
Since then, Justice has been married to Rebecca Justice for over two decades, and the couple shares two children.
Berry, on the other hand, is currently in a committed relationship with musician Van Hunt. Her previous marriages include unions with Eric Benét (2001–2005) and Olivier Martinez (2013–2016). She has two children: 17-year-old Nahla, with ex-partner Gabriel Aubry, and 11-year-old Maceo, whose father is Martinez.
