Hamas-affiliated media reported on Thursday morning that an Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza resulted in the death of Hamas spokesperson Abdel-Latif Al-Qanoua, marking the latest loss for the group since Israel resumed its operations in the area.

Al-Aqsa television, which is run by Hamas, stated that Al-Qanoua was killed when his tent in Jabalia was struck.

The same airstrike also injured several individuals, while separate attacks led to at least six fatalities in Gaza City and one in Khan Younis, a town in southern Gaza.

Earlier this week, Israel also targeted and killed Ismail Barhoum, a member of Hamas’ political office, along with Salah al-Bardaweel, another senior figure within the group. Both were part of the 20-member decision-making body of Hamas, with 11 of its members having been killed since the conflict intensified in late 2023.

The escalation followed Israel’s resumption of bombing and ground operations last week, ending a two-month ceasefire, which pressured Hamas to release the hostages still in its custody.

Gaza’s health ministry reported that over 830 people, more than half of them women and children, have been killed since Israel renewed its major military operations on March 18.

Meanwhile, both Israel and Hamas have blamed each other for violating the truce.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he ordered the strikes after Hamas rejected proposals to extend the ceasefire and reiterated threats to seize Gaza territory unless the remaining hostages are freed.
