The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) chapter in Sokoto State has urged Governor Ahmad Aliyu to give the state’s pensioners access to the newly approved N70,000 minimum salary.

In a statement, Secretary of the Union Alhaji Nasiru Sarkin Larabawa made the appeal, highlighting the financial challenges that retirees confront.

“Pensioners who dedicated 35 years of service to the state deserve to benefit from this new wage structure. Many of them struggle to provide for their families due to the high cost of living,” he said.

He praised Governor Aliyu for his dedication to the development of Sokoto State and making sure that pensions and gratuities are paid on time.

“We appreciate His Excellency’s efforts in prioritizing pension payments and gratuity allocations. However, we urge him to extend the same financial relief to pensioners by incorporating them into the new wage plan,” Larabawa added.

Additionally, the National Union of Pensioners (NUP) thanked Governor Aliyu for his assistance and promised to write an official letter of gratitude.

“His administration has shown concern for retirees, and we recognize his commitment,” the statement read.

Remember that Governor Ahmad Aliyu declared Monday that all state civil servants, local government workers, and the local government education authority will immediately be paid the new N70,000 minimum pay.
