A strong military presence was observed in various parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office, which will be commemorated on May 29, 2025.
On Wednesday morning, personnel from the armed forces along with armored vehicles were seen stationed at the well-known Berger Bridge, connecting Wuse Zone 6 and Jabi.
This security arrangement is unfolding as President Tinubu prepares to mark two years since his inauguration on May 29, 2023, amid ongoing economic challenges across the country.
While last year’s commemoration was notably subdued, it remains uncertain whether this year’s event will follow the same approach.
Reports from economic experts have indicated that the administration has struggled to improve living conditions for many Nigerians.
However, some financial analysts noted emerging progress in areas such as the foreign exchange market, national external reserves, and government revenue.
The Tinubu administration introduced two significant reforms eliminating fuel subsidies and floating the Naira which have contributed to surging inflation and a steep rise in the cost of living over the past 23 months.
Speaking about the economic situation under the current administration on Tuesday, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) acknowledged the continued hardship faced by citizens.
He expressed optimism that within two to three years, the benefits of current government policies would begin to positively impact the average Nigerian.
“People are still suffering. Yes, I agree to that, but it has started trickling in on the macroeconomic level, which is the upper level, not the lower. I am hoping that in the next two to three years the policy of Mr. President will trickle down and Nigerians will appreciate what Mr. President is doing.

“I’m not a sycophant. Since 1960, this is the first president (Tinubu) who stopped the subsidy and the first who merged the dollar. That’s why we are suffering; Nigerians are not used to working hard. We are used to getting cheap money,” he said.
At the state level, 26 governors across the country including those of Delta and Akwa Ibom are also expected to observe the second anniversary of their terms.
