Abidjan, the capital of Cote D’Ivoire, saw a lot of traffic before the 2023 African Cup of Nations’ opening game between Guinea Bissau and the host team, the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire.

According to a NAN correspondent covering the competition in Abidjan on Saturday, the security agencies tried their best to maintain control of the situation.

NAN further notes that it was difficult for reporters and fans of the two countries to enter the stadium because of the intense security and traffic.

A few of the drivers and pedestrians expressed dissatisfaction with the traffic to NAN, calling on the Confederation of African Football, or CAF, to improve its plans for handling the issue.

Some of them nevertheless said they were excited that the African Cup of Nations was taking place in their country.

Despite the circumstances, a few kilometres from the Alassane Ouattara stadium, several Ivorians could be seen drumming and dancing to pass the time for those caught in traffic.
