According to reports, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, the senior pastor of the City of David parish in Victoria Island, Lagos State, has been suspended by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, or RCCG.

According to ZINGTIE, the ban has something to do with the public uproar after his wife, Siji Iluyomade’s lavish birthday celebration.

Remember that on February 18, 2024, Siji celebrated her brilliant 60th birthday, which coincided with the passing of Herbert Wigwe, a well-known churchgoer and former CEO of Access Bank.

A video clip from the birthday celebration featured Flavour N’abania, a well-known Nigerian singer, serenading her with hits including Ada Ada, Berna, and Adamma.

Using social media, some online users questioned why a clergyman was hosting a party with a secular musician.

ZINGTIE discovered on Monday that the church’s Governing Council had suspended Pastor Iluyomade for a period of three months following an investigation.

The Nation was informed by church sources that Pastor Charles Kpandei of the RCCG Resurrection Parish in Region 11 of the church has subsequently taken Iluyomade’s place. On Sunday, he went back to work.

A prominent clergyman stated that there was a need to “investigate some of the things people were saying against him and the church.”

The sources confirmed that “it was not Pastor Adeboye that suspended him. The governing council decided to suspend him. I think it’s a decision in the right direction.“

“Though some believe it is coming late. They needed to investigate some of the things people were saying against him and the church.”
