Due to the frequent attacks and deaths by suspected Fulani militias, particularly in Berom areas, a women’s group in Plateau State has threatened to demonstrate in the nude.

The group, which issued the threat in a statement on Saturday under the auspices of the Berom Women Development Association, or BWEDA, also said that the state’s continued violence is a blatant instance of genocide rather than the farmer-herder clashes that are commonly thought to be the cause.

BWEDA called on the government and security forces to take swift, decisive action to halt the state’s unrelenting violence in a statement signed by its president, Abigail Banga.

The women’s group bemoaned the recurring killings and destruction of entire towns in spite of the presence of military personnel and armored equipment, calling the wave of attacks stupid and unprovoked.

The women also conveyed their intense annoyance at what they perceive to be the government’s inability to offer safety and justice to those who are attacked.

They criticized the administrations for using palliative care and condolence visits rather than a strong, long-term security approach to stop the violence.

“Our hearts bleed with each butchered child and burned home. We are traumatised, we are grieving, and we are angry. This is not a conflict—it is a campaign of extermination,” part of the statement said.

The group emphasized that claims of military indifference and potential complicity with terrorists should not be ignored and urged the federal government to immediately review the state’s security structure.

“We’ve had enough of empty words. We demand action now or we will embark on a naked protest. This is not just Plateau’s problem, it is Nigeria’s shame,” the women added.
